The development of Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP) for the South Worcestershire areas of Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester are important to help Worcestershire County Council secure future investment in active travel through funding bids and discussions with developers. This evidence base will not only inform Worcestershire County Council’s Local Transport Plans and Policies and report back to Active Travel England but will help the Council to further implement safe walking, wheeling, and cycling infrastructure and promote further sustainable travel choices for local journeys.
Jacobs, the consultant working on our behalf, has carried out research into the South Worcestershire areas and has proposed a draft emergent network of walking, wheeling and cycling routes to be considered for active travel. Please note that the LCWIP for Evesham has been finalised and will be published shortly on our website.
The maps for the South Worcestershire areas are draft proposals at this stage and may change as the draft Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP) develop and further investigation is undertaken for Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester.
To obtain public opinion about the emergent network of proposed routes in each area, we are launching a public engagement exercise in Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester for a twelve-week period from Monday 11 August to 31 October 2025 closing at midnight.
The purpose of the public engagement exercise is to ensure that local people, organisations and businesses have the opportunity to review and make comments about the proposed routes which have been put forward by Jacobs to encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling in these areas.
For the public engagement exercise, the focus for cycling is on the emerging ‘primary’ routes. Jacobs have also developed a wider cycling network incorporating ‘secondary’ and ‘link’ routes, intended to complement the ‘primary’ network. The emerging ‘primary’ cycling network consists of 31 cycling routes in total across Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester. For each area, there is also an emerging walking and wheeling network featuring primary routes with secondary or link routes. There is also a walking and wheeling network for each area with key destinations. These number of routes for each area are as follows:
Information about this public engagement exercise will be published on our website with a link to an online survey that features interactive maps for each area, going live from Monday 11 August.
To encourage as much participation as possible, the exercise will be publicised through social media, a press release and local posters where possible in each area. For accessibility, the survey will also be available in alternative formats on request. Information will also be available in Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester libraries, with assistance where possible from library staff.
The feedback and analysis from this public engagement exercise will enable us to inform the draft South Worcestershire LCWIP reports and identify a set of high-priority primary routes from the draft emergent networks. The high priority routes will be recommended to be delivered first to offer the greatest benefit to the local community, encouraging more walking, wheeling and cycling to promote active travel in your respective area.
If you have queries about the Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) for the South Worcestershire areas of Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester or want to discuss them in more detail, please let us know.
