Parish Council advisory bodies (such as Worcestershire CALC, guiding councillors on best practice and value for money) have been urging parish and town councils to join the growing number making the switch to trusted .gov.uk domains. With over 4,000 parish and town councils already on board and hundreds more transitioning this year, our parish councillors felt that now was the time to embrace greater transparency, digital security, and professionalism. More than just a domain name, .gov.uk signals legitimacy to a community, safeguards sensitive information, and supports compliance with data protection laws.
Only recognised public sector bodies can register a .gov.uk domain. That means if a council uses .gov.uk email addresses, residents can be confident that the communication is legitimate. It also makes it much harder for cybercriminals to impersonate the parish or town council or target residents.
We welcome feedback on our new website. Contact the Parish Clerk with ideas and comments.
