02/05/2025 “Dear Community,
I am writing as an update in regard to the construction of the Severn Stoke Flood Alleviation Scheme.
The construction market is volatile at this time, as evidenced by the increasing construction costs and the withdrawal of Alun Griffiths as a contractor for the project by their parent company. Unfortunately, this means that until we are able to identify a contractor and confirm construction costs, we are unable to conclude the necessary affordability assessment required to commence the construction phase of the project.
When we last met, we expressed that we would be able to confirm the commencement of the construction phase of the project at a meeting on the 7th of May. This commitment was made from a position of having a contractor on-board. Sadly, the withdrawal of Alun Griffiths by their parent company has meant we are no longer in the position to provide the confirmation we are all hoping for.
As we are not able to provide any further update to you on the 7th May we will not attend the public meeting as planned. We recognise that this set back provides further frustration for the community, but we assure you that teams at both Worcestershire County Council and the Environment Agency continue to work very hard to progress the project and we will update you when we have any key developments.
